Gigi has had a great summer.  I’m not going to candy coat it – Disneyland, camping, playing, late nights, later mornings and neighborhood playdates.  But what she has really wanted are schoolmate playdates.  She wanted to have her girls over this summer for dress up, tea parties, barbies, babies, make believe, sprinklers and more.  While we have always started out our summers with the best of intentions – playdates every week! – it is actually a lot harder to get her pals over here than I ever expected.  As we have been calling around, and most people are busy, going here, visiting with others, camps and lessons keep most kids fairly occupied during the summer months.  So when I called to ask if Peyton could come spend a night and a day and the answer was YES, Gigi was over the moon with joy.

Something about Peyton just clicks with Gigi.  Peyton is strong willed, opinionated and fiery – in all the best ways.  She is a great counterbalance to Gigi who has a tendency to walk the line like its a balance beam.  Peyton encourages Gigi to try new things, to take risks in her play.  Peyton is the kind of kid who makes things seem possible.  It also helps that Peyton has no qualms about putting Jude into his place and can hold her own against him.  They are very well matched!

As soon as Peyton arrived, the girls dashed upstairs to dress in their finest.  I don’t think Peyton took the dress off again, except to sleep.  Lipstick was worn for the entire visit, dress shopping in Gigi’s room actually happened, and a prom was thrown in Peyton’s honor.  The princesses played outside with babies and in the play structure with the dollies AND a Star Wars helmet, light sabers and guns.  I’m not sure what it is that they were playing, but some kind of game was fused together with those components.

I overheard Gigi saying that the night Peyton came over was the best part of summer, which means that this is definitely something we will have to repeat!
