Everybody is finally big enough to play Sorry! Board games have re-entered the nightly traditions with a vengeance. Jude loves the backwards 4 maneuver. We fudge on drawing a 2 card by allowing players to come out and move 1 additional space so it fully uses up the 2. Sorry! cards cause a huge ruckus, prompting Jude to raise his hands in a protective shield over his blue guys as shown in the collage pic. Jude’s favorite team is green, so you know he is being generous when he says, “momma, da geen one for you”, and he picks the blue team instead.

We played Sorry! with popcorn in honor of Guinevere’s training wheel free ride and Jude’s first jaunt on the tagalong bike.

The training wheels are off! Guinevere pretty much learned to ride without ever using training wheels. So proud.

And Jude had his first ride on the tagalong behind me. He beamed with pride at being able to push pedals with daddy.

I think we figured out what exercise 2.0 looks like for the Littlejohns!

Last week was the Sock Hop.  Of course we went, but not as a poodle skirt wearing girl.  Oh no, our girl went as a Pink Lady, beehive hairdo and all!  Jude was an unhappy greaser when we left the house, but quickly adjusted when he saw the hundred or so kids in the gym all running around, dancing, singing and eating loads of candy!  I quickly lost him to the cool boys – AJ, (his 5th grade ‘best friend’ who is terribly kind and Jude wants to have over for playdates and slumber parties) Tanner and Bret.  He couldn’t choose a nicer group of 11 and 12 year olds to hang out with and act all cool.

We got to the school and I hardly saw the kids for the rest of the night as they folded in with the crowd, which left me with some time to kill.  Yep, I was shaking it on the dance floor with my fourth graders to Beyonce, Taylor Swift and twisted with the best of them for four songs.  That was tiring, sweaty and I’m embarrassed to say, the most fun I’ve had at a dance in a long time!

For years Gigi  has been that kid who gets the hula hoop to orbit her hips two to three times before it plummets to the ground.  In preparation for the hula hoop contest this year, however, she submitted to a training regime during gym class.  Recalling the past few years how the contest went, she practiced straight up hula-ing, then on one foot, then with her eyes closed, and she even practiced hopping up and down while hula hooping!  Her practice paid off because she WON the contest for the second grade girls’ division!  It was a BIG moment in that little sweetheart’s life.

We headed home with pockets full of candy and sleepy eyes.  A fun night out!

Our tournament for DI came and went last weekend.  Gigi participated with six other first and second graders in an after school club where the team conceptualized, wrote and designed a play from beginning to end.  The next division of DI would be competitive, but this was Gigi’s last year as a rising star, so she mostly had fun creating cool stuff with her friends!  If she chooses to join again next year, she will compete with the potential of moving on to state and beyond.

This year the challenge was to invent a new toy and see what happens with it in a play.  Her team chose to make a robot, a robot that goes on a RAMPAGE!  It even has a car chase scene in the play!

We are unsure of the status of DI in the future, but know that these past two years have offered Gigi a unique problem solving opportunity each time.  We are proud of her determination, her teamwork and her creativity!

Click the link to be whisked away to the land where robots come to life through the use of yellow sand and scientists are so cool they wear sunglasses as their protective eye gear!
