This one turns five on Tuesday.

It suddenly occurred to me that we are no longer ‘parents of young children’. We are parents of ‘elementary aged’ children now. It seems so strange to move beyond having any babies or toddlers.

Jude has lost his toofers. Just like that. One morning he came in and I jokingly asked him if he had any loose teeth. Up he runs and I am shocked to find a little wiggler. Huh. He’s four. FOUR! I know! He felt it too. He was happy as a clam with his little loose tooth until it got really loose. Then the tooth under it started pushing out and the baby tooth just let go when I have it s little tug. Tooth number one was out!

Then he started crying. He missed his tooth and realized that losing this first tooth was kissing his babyhood goodbye. He cried that he didn’t want to grow up into a man- he wants to be our little boy for always. We know exactly how he feels.

The tooth fairy came and dropped a book and some bucks, leaving his tooth behind for Jude to remember being a baby by.
Lo and behold, a few days later the neighbor tooth started working it’s way out, becoming wigglier and wigglier! Finally, I came home on Tuesday to find his tooth not only loose, but laying sideways in his mouth. It couldn’t function and was barely hanging in there. We tried to get Jude to pull it out or let someone else pull it, but he wasn’t having it!

Jude brushed that tooth that night and slept with it. He woke in the morning and at breakfast, that tooth made its escape via the bagel. Jude took a bite and out it came!

Tooth fairy showed up again this morning. Jude came to us with a dime in his hand, thrilled at his take! Lucky for him, Daddy was able to find the real prize: a Scooby book and the bucks.
Cheers to the big boy Judel Noodle who, for now, we call Toothless.

The office has become the place to BE at our house especially for the two manliest Littlejohns.

We write. We draw.  Play guitars. Do things to electronics that void warranties. Watch Word World, and play with action figures and Legos. The Chewbacca seen in the photos was a gift from Jude.  We tend to set Chewie up in a new cool pose each day so he can survey’s the room for danger.  Chewbacca has become the official mascot of our Secret Hideout.  Actually, we are trying to come up with the perfect name for our workspace.  Jude suggests “the only boys with no girls place”, but I think he isn’t ready for the responsibility of naming an institution to be placed squarely on his shoulders (for developmental as well as pre-pubescent reasons).  We bandied about Hall of Justice, Smuggler’s Cove, Brad Cave, Bureau of Art Listening Letters & Superheroics (or BALLS for short), Fortress of Superdudes–  the list goes on and on.  Whatever we decide upon, I am certain that signage will ensue and show up here.

Today’s pose for Chewbacca was Daddy’s own hands on hips surveying the land pose.

Jude’s spends a lot more time drawing again now that the drafting table is back as the hub of our life.  This one was particularly wonderful.  I’m seeing Paul Klee influences.  The color palette he selected is terrific and I am jealous of that abstract/ one-eyed/cyclops/alien design!

Jude Insisted that his picture get photographed along with Chewie.

Jude likes to build with Legos while I am working in my office, and then collect his sculptures on my shelves and in the display cabinets.  It is really fun to have a revolving door of sculpture passing through constantly.

Today’s innovation began as a snowtrooper suspended in “ice” by the Wampa.  I was impressed that he inverted the legos in order to hang the trooper from the ice.

    20130226-093616.jpg

This led to building a Wampa.. replete with bloody tauntaun bone in hand!

    20130226-093625.jpg

And that led to building a Luke Skywalker in Hoth Rebel cold weather uniform to better set the scene

    20130226-093640.jpg

Which led to an untimely end for everyone’s favorite Abominable Snow/Star Man!

You’re right. Littlejohnesque has gotten pretty quiet.

It has everything to do with me – I’m losing weight and being all self centered about it. So self centered, in fact that I have an entire new blog based on my weightloss:
