Compassion
05.08.10 | Permalink | | Comments Off on CompassionWe have been sick over here at LJ house, sick like dogs. It started with Gigi who suddenly threw up last Monday night and Bradley spent the evening cleaning up messes, sheets, towels and giving showers until about 4:30 AM when I took over. Then, two days later while Gigi was still recovering with fevers, it was Jude’s turn. His episode began early in the morning on Wednesday. He got up and Bradley put him back to bed. The next thing we heard was him hollering, “Oh no! Daddy!” Followed by the slap slap of his feet as he made his way into our bedroom to present his vomit covered self to us. Again, we were in wash, rinse repeat mode, this time with the boy version. Bradley and I are both pretty careful with washing hands and cleaning/disinfecting our house ever since our run-in with MRSA, so we were fairly confident that we were not going to get sick ourselves. I was wrong.
Yesterday morning I woke up feeling fine. I went to work, where because it was staff/teacher appreciation week we had breakfast served to us and a luncheon planned for our non-student day. I love going to work when I don’t have to plan any meals, so imagine my dismay as I was sitting in our staff meeting after breakfast and my stomach started rolling. At first, I convinced myself I was fine, but the longer I sat there, the more immediate became my need to head home. I will leave out all of the gory details except one.
Bradley left with Gigi to run some errands while Jude napped. I was at home making my rounds from bed to toilet and back again. Jude woke up from his nap in time to witness one of these trips to the toilet and caught me in the act of leaning over and retching. Having been through the same thing ever so recently he decided to stand by me and see me through. He was so sweet, every time my stomach vacated itself into the bowl, he would pat my arm and flush for me, all the while telling me, ” ‘s ok Mama. Ooooh, Mama.” I have never seen such tenderness or sweetness from my boy, and at that moment, I loved him more than ever and I was so incredibly grateful for my two year old’s companionship.

I wish it had been this pretty.

Trucks
05.04.10 | Permalink | | Comments Off on TrucksWhenever we visit the toy department lately all of the trucks in the aisle come off the shelf and go into the shopping cart. We don’t buy then usually, but Jude is certainly determined to attempt to sneak them in. We let him get these little trucks the other day and now they go everywhere with him. And when I say everywhere, I mean it. He has a little bucket he carries them in like a purse, and they go to the store, in the bath and even in bed – though they must certainly be uncomfortable.
Imagine his complete joy, then, that our entire yard at the new house is just dirt for the time being. We have many trucks now, some small like Matchbox cars and others large enough to straddle and ride. Long minutes are spent making the beep beep beeping noise that warns when a truck is backing up, or vrooming from here to there. The scoopers are filled with mud and dumped here or there. Heaven for two year old boys must look a lot like this!

200 Yard Joyride
05.02.10 | Permalink | | Comments Off on 200 Yard JoyridePipi, Bradley’s dad, (pronounced pie-pie) invited the kids out to the golf course for a cruise in the golf cart recently. We watched as they drove away, all huddled in the small cab of the cart.
It was a beautiful day for a drive. They circled through the apple orchard, and we left to run some errands, leaving the kids in the capable hands of their Pipi.
Later that evening, when we went to pick the kids up, we heard another funny Jude story. Apparently, Jude was so enamored of the golf cart that he decided to make a run for it. Assuming that Jude would not be able to turn the key, pull the lever AND slip the cart into gear, Pipi watched from a distance with Gigi while Jude climbed in, turned the key, pulled the lever, slipped the cart into gear and took off down the fairway! Gigi and Pipi chased Jude as he gleefully drove the cart on a 200 yard joyride, before Pipi’s long legs brought him to the cart where he hopped in, took over, and turned around to collect his granddaughter. Another grand adventure!

The Body Boogie
Gigi’s kindergarten music performance was on Thursday. She was terribly excited to get all dolled up for the show. An Easter dress, purse, high heels and hot rollers were necessary in order for her to sing her best.
Before the show, she met up with her friends from kindergarten. There were two classes of five and six year olds hanging out in her classroom. I can only imagine the chaos that was in there, but when they were ready to come into the venue, they were perfectly behaved little ladies and gentlemen. They peeped around the room, seeking out familiar faces, and waved wildly when they saw someone they knew. Our Gigi was no exception.
She made her way onstage with her pals, and proceeded to entertain us with the songs The Body Boogie, Snack Time and and Listen to the Beat of my Heart. She swayed, she sang, she squatted, she hopped, she tickled and she chatted. She was only supposed to sway and sing, but she wanted to put on the very best performance, so she added a little bit extra…
After it was all over, we thanked her wonderful music teacher, Ms. Ries, who always leads a great performance. Gigi always reports that music is her very favorite ‘special’ and is quite excited that next year she gets music instruction TWICE every week! Then we rushed home where Gigi slept with a ski hat on in an attempt to preserve her curls. (It worked, lovely curls hung from her head the next day too!)
