Gigi: Mmm!  This food is so good!  We should eat breakfast here all of the time!

Me: Well, it really isn’t the healthiest of choices, that’s why we’ve never been here before.

    Gigi: Why isn’t it healthy?

Me: There’s A LOT of fat and salt in this food.  Too much fat and salt makes for unhealthy food.  It’s okay for a treat but not for every day.

Gigi: Someone should tell them that and they should make the food healthier.

    Me: They know.

We are always trying to find a way to have a full family costume.  We have tossed around many ideas, and this year we landed on being the Scooby Gang.

PICT0266 That’s us as Shaggy (Bradley), Velma (me), Scooby (Martha), Fred (Jude) and Daphne (Gigi).  I lost my glasses many a time exclaiming, “Jinkies!”, Bradley often in his best Shaggy voice excalimed, “Zoinks!  Like,  Scoob…”  But few people were able to make the connection.  We felt clever, but were never recognized.  Regardless, we had a good time.

This was Jude’s first real Trick or Treat opportunity.  At first he wanted to enter every house we knocked on and became frustrated when we wouldn’t let him go too far inside the house.   He caught on quickly though and was often seen choosing a lollipop above all.  He loved looking at the glowing pumpkins and tried to snuff many of the flames out.

We started out with the Shepard family of Amy, Danny and Madeline Mouse.  We were serious about the candy while Amy and Danny were mostly interested in just showing off their little Minnie.

Next we headed over to Vince and Jamie’s house where Gigi and Sophie were thrilled to see one another in costume.  We quickly headed out the door to collect more tricks and treats.

At the end of the night we had more candy than any one person needs, or even an entire family!  A sweet ending to a fun day!

At the party each child got to ‘adopt’ a stuffed animal and spend some time naming, dressing, decorating and feeding the pet.  Each pet came with an adoption certificate proclaiming that the child would promise to take care of their pet forever.

Gigi enjoyed spending time with her friends, makingthe wish of a lifetime on her pink poodle cake and licking the frosting from her fingers and candles.  The party ended with cake, juice,  giant pixie sticks, a round of Doggie Doggie Where’s Your Bone.  a few moments of fresh air and smiles all around!  A success!

Lately when I get home from work I am frequently given a play by play of some big event from Jude.  The other day Bradley was trying to tame our mountain goat, because when I arrived home Jude ran over to me and started saying, “Down, down, down.”  Over and over and over.  While the speaking part was limited, the acting out part was animated as he went to all of the areas he is supposed to stay down from.  He ran around hitting, patting and pointing at the back of the couch, the coffee table, the dining table, the exercise bike and more all the while shaking his head and saying, “Down!”
