While in the toy aisle the other day, Gigi was oggling many delightful items. How much is this? How much is that? In general, everything my daughter wants to buy will take at least four (if not 16) weeks of saving her precious three-dollar-a-week allowance before she can afford anything. Just like any other mom, I would love to just drop the $25.00 to give my girl whatever she wants. But it is not things or money that are the issue, it’s the principle here, right people??? If I just give her everything we risk ‘creating’ a ‘spoiled’ child. So as she was looking at all of this drool worthy plastic, I was wracking my brain tryingto figure out how to authentically get my kid some money. Then it dawned on me: she could sell something! What could she sell? Well, Bradley buys a box of 100 Otter Pops every summer and we have a surplus (from last year) and a fresh box this year. We would sell Otter Pops for .25 each! Perfect! My idea was met with my five-year-old’s enthusiasm. When could we start? She’s going to be rich!!!

The first step was to make a cash box, colorful and with a hole on top where the people can drop their money. Next, we had to make signs that told how much stuff cost. Otter pops cost .25 cents each and Pixy Stix rang in at .10 or three for .25 cents. We added Pixy Stix to diversify our stock and to get rid of some old Halloween candy!
She asked Pipi if we could sell at his house because (and she came up with this) more people drive by his house than ours so there would be more cutomers! What a smartie!

We set up today and immediately had two customers: Grandma Sheri and Pipi. While she was glad to make the money she turned to me after they left and asked, “When will there be people I don’t know?” Before long, there they were: people she didn’t know! She was dedicated and stuck with the task of running a ‘store’ from 2:00 until 5:00 and made $11.55! Nice! People were so generous, neighbors coming over, people stopping their cars and the tipping!  Wow! Afterward, Gigi expressed an interest running her store again tomorrow to make even more money with her leftover supplies. She says she wants to buy a Littlest Pet Shop kennel when she sells out. We may be having sales for a while!

Of the Butterflies

The Chrysalises hatched! First there were two butterfies then we waited two nights and then two more hatched. One hatched at nighttime. We are going to let them go on Saturday because it is supposed to be warm out and butterflies only like to fly in warm air. I am very excited about my butterflies!

Fourth of July Festivities

On the Fourth we ended up staying local and having a pretty nice time. We decided to skip an invite to celebrate on a sailboat (Jude would be just too too much to handle) and instead headed over to the Kenmore neighborhood where will be laying down roots in the form of a house over the next months.

Our friends, Vince and Jamie, bought a house right around the corner from our property and we were lucky enough to score an invitation to their celebration of Independence Day.

Both of our families had kids around the same time: Gigi and Sophie are three months apart while Jude is four months older than their twins, Rowan and Lila.

We had great food and a magnificent show of fireworks for around $10.00! We even skipped the big fireworks show at the park in honor of our own little pyros who were pleased as punch with our sparklers, fountains, snakes and smoke bombs.

A fantastic Fourth of July!

My ‘Caters’ are in Their Chrysalises

My caterpillars are in their shells. They are called chrysalises. They look very cute now. My mommy taped the paper with the chrysalises into the butterfly cage. Inside, they are shedding all their caterpillar skin and getting their butterfly costume on.   It will take six or seven days until they come out. The little one has started to grow. I think it might get into its shell too. I left it in the jar so it still has food.
