Random Odd Inchworm
05.05.09 | Permalink | | Comments Off on Random Odd InchwormToday was a real oddity for us. Tamara was home and it seemed like a setup for a humdinger of a day but we struggled to find a good stride and today ended up like a bunch of photos scattered all over the table with the faces cut out. Just a bunch a scraps to get swept up. On the high point we salvaged our evening with pizza, Mario Party, a nice bath for Jude, and a somnambulent finale wherein we tried to watch “Dude Where’s My Car” and ended up too sleepy to do so.

Daily Dose of Life
[singlepic id=8 w=320 h=240 float=right]I arrived back at school today answering that question of, “What did you do this weekend.” Honestly, I’d love to say that we did fascinating things. We were busy caught up in a cycle of normal life: running errands, completing tasks & making appointments. I would like to say we made lovely dinners that broadened our family’s palate and adored one another’s company all weekend. We did eat and adore, but with an air of exhaustion. The truth is that we chased our tails in circles, getting house stuff done like fixing our carport and refinishing our decks, helping people move, and we paid Gigi to tend Jude while we worked on home repair tasks. We have had the excitement of chicken pox in our lives, but what are the chicken pox compared to a lovely beachside walk where Martha gallivants in the surf while the kids turn over rocks (G) or eat sand (J). And rather than fine cuisine, we recently made a trip to the ‘W’ store (third or fourth time to that store in our lifetime in Lynnwood, thank you) and purchased for Gigi Cheetos that are the size and shape of marshmallows to go with the sub sanwiches that were leftover from the staff appreciation lunch at school today.
A sunny spot was on Friday. We went outside to our backyard and played soccer. It was simple and fun, and brought out something in my daughter that I had never seen. “Oh, you think you can get past me, huh? Huh? Ooh, you think you can? You’re never gonna get a goal. OooOOohhh!” When did she learn to trash talk?! It was marvelous and simple, followed up by some good old dirt and mud cakes and dandelion soup. Martha ran through the neighbor’s dandelions chasing her soccerball while Jude gingerly crawled across the grass. Lovely. Happy. Busy. Saturday realized Jude’s first step ever. I realize that life is good. Incredibly simple and good.
