Stopped Watch Spring

While driving today I saw a runner coming down a hill on Phinney Ridge. She looked like she was having a beautiful time. I wanted to be her trucking down the hill in that moment. Then I saw her check her watch. It made me see myself checking my own watch. Again and again and again while I run I am marking my pace. Striving. Stressing. Seeing her check her watch broke that perfect moment for me. When I got back from the zoo today & went out for a run I left my watch at home. I love to know that I am improving and to chart my growth as a runner, but I also love the poetry of just running. The cherry trees smelled terrific, the air was as good as I can ever recall here. I did sprints so I could open my mouth wide and breath while my heartbeat filled up my ears with the thudthudthud. It was not so that I could improve my time on the hill. I had a really nice run today.
