Macy’s Santa Claus Parade
11.29.13 | Permalink | | Comments Off on Macy’s Santa Claus ParadeWe continued our yearly tradition of visiting the Macy’s Santa Claus Parade this morning. This year was our best. We were out the door on time, in Seattle on time, parked on time and EVEN had a curbside spot before the first group made its way down 4th avenue. The kids had a great time, we were appropriately chilled by the end and danced along to each and every marching band. We are at the perfect age for parades now!!
After the parade fun, we headed into a few stores and took advantage of a few Black Friday deals. We used to get waaaaayyy into the Black Friday thing. Mostly it was the event of it and less about the deals. There is something fun about being in a store at 3:AM. Don’t ask me why. Perhaps it’s like those lock-ins where we slept at school as a kid… Anyhow, this year we hit a couple of stores, actually scored some cool deals that we didn’t know we needed and then just played tourists in our town. It was really fun.

The gum wall was the perfect place to share a kiss… (It really was as gross as you think it would be. Grosser, really.)
After all that? Thanksgiving leftovers, hot tub, couching and a run. It was a perfecto day!
This was a new sight to see at the parade. It felt good to know there were systems in place for bombing events, but talk about feeling unnerved at the reminder it could happen… Shiver.

It’s Thanksgiving!

It was just the Lj four gathered around our table yesterday. We had originally planned to wear pajamas, but then Jude bought a tie, so we all donned some fancy clothes and tucked in to our tofurkey.
Before we were allowed to take one bite, Jude asked us to bow our heads and offer up our gratitude. As we went around the table, be closed his eyes so tight and listened to each of us so earnestly. Thankfulness was paramount in that moment. 🙂
We followed our feasting up with a visit to our neighbor’s house, where we shared a Thanksgiving toast and several pieces of pie. We got to enjoy the just right amount of family-ish feeling togetherness when we headed back across the street where…
We decorated our Christmas tree!
Let the Christmas season begin!

Walk
11.11.13 | Permalink | | 2 CommentsThe sun is falling earlier these days. Daylight savings makes the light shift that much more acute, making us feel like squirrels bedding down for the winter. We feel ourselves curling up in our den around the fire with our favorite blankies, books and mugs of warm something or others. It’s a good time of year. If the sun peeks out though…
We’ve committed to daily walks as a family. It’s only a mile or mile and a half every day, but it’s been lovely to get outside to breath the autumnal air.
Guinevere has taken to running for most of the mile while Jude runs for about 1/4 of a mile before he slows his pace to a walk. As he walks, we hear the most fabulous stories about robots and giant ants, about otter boy, about trolls and any other thing his brain comes up with. He has plans with his dad to open a comic book studio someday and they are going to need a lot of stories.
I think walking as a family is helping to keep us connected. It’s on these walks when I do my best listening to this girl. It’s when she confides things in me and asks lots of questions about things, holding my hand, chattering away about every thing that her brain comes up with too.
Our loyal hound Martha. Whenever we go for walks she always get so excited that she gets this really viscous spit that wraps over the top of her nose. It’s really gross. I remember seeing a dog like that once, before I had my own dog who does this, and thinking how horribly disgusting it was. Teach me to judge. Upon seeing this Jude hollered, “Ohh disgusting! Martha squirted snot across her nose!” A small price to pay for the greatest joy known to this pup.

To celebrate the big decade switch-a-roo and my mom’s impending birthday, my mom sprung for a spa package at the Tulalip Resort Hotel. It was pretty awesome. I have been to a Korean spa before, but this was different. This was the kind of place where you’re not even expected to undress alone much less run your own bath or walk to the sauna independently. There was seriously someone in the locker room to watch you and hand your robe or anything else you might need to you. Weird, but nice. Also, tea was everywhere and I fell in love with one variety… I also had my first ever non-boyfriend/husband/friend massage. You know, the kind that you know never has to be reciprocal… The kind where you just lay there all sleepy and drunk on loose muscles and hot rocks on your back… It was good.
And of course I’m the total dork who snuck her phone in to take pictures of the whole thing. They all turned out terrible and I never took a picture when anyone else was around but it was still fun to be all subversive. 🙂
