Girl’s Day Out
09.03.11 | Permalink | | Comments Off on Girl’s Day OutThis past Mother’s Day I gave my mom a promise of a future pedicure/girl’s day out as a gift. Because my mom has been in and out of the state so much this year (anyone elses’ retired parents have a busier social schedule than their children???) it took until this week to finally fit in the date. I had a gift certificate to cash in, a former parent of a student owns a nail shop called Cathy Nails if you are interested, so we headed over, just the girls: Mom, Guinevere and me.
I chose my usual, french tips, Mom went traditional reddish pinkish, and Gigi went hog wild, alternating between pink and gold, with a fancy flower and gem on each big toe. I had no complaints about the services, not that this is a review or anything, but the owner’s brother gives a really intense, totally awesome deep tissue foot massage with your pedicure. My mom and I were both just dying. The best death, of course!
When we were done we headed to Blue-C Sushi so Gigi could try something new, and my mom had never been to see the sushi make its way around to you on the tracks. Totally gimmicky, not the best sushi, but oh-so-ever-so fun! I was super impressed at the variety of new things that Gigi was willing to try in the name of adventure.
And our final stop, of course, was Norstroms. As we headed through the door Gigi was draggin her feet, wanting to head home. Little did she know that when you take Mimi into Nordstroms, Mimi can’t resist buying a pretty dress for a grateful, kind and deserving little girly girl. She ended up with a fancy dress for Thanksgiving or Christmas or some other formalish event, and a cute polka dotted skirt for school. She loved the dress so much that we had to head back into the dressing room to wear it home. She was thrilled. Thanks you for the fun day, Mimi!!! (Sadly, none of the pictures with my mom actually in them made it through e-mail properly, but rest assured she was there and we LOVE her dearly!)

Science Center
08.30.11 | Permalink | | Comments Off on Science CenterAs the the summer is winding down to its end, we at the LJ house are trying to pack in as much fun as possible. The other day we realized we have a blue million (well, 17) tickets to the IMAX theater thanks to our Pacific Science Center membership, so we took leave of our fair Kenmore for a few hours and headed to downtown Seattle. Daddy rode a bike high up in the air, Jude discovered that he would nicely be crushed if a Duckbill Dinosaur were to accidentally step on him, Gigi and I found the queen bee in the hive and we all learned something about baby elephant and orangutan rescue. It was an easy and fun way to spend the afternoon!

How Does Your Garden Grow? Part II
08.26.11 | Permalink | | Comments Off on How Does Your Garden Grow? Part IIRemember this?
Well, I’m happy to say it looks a little more this this these days:
For weeks we’ve had fresh salad with fresh cucumbers and a side of fresh green beans or fresh peas. Tomatoes are beginning to turn red and the carrots are beginning to ripen. Our little vegetable garden has fed us well this summer. But we didn’t just plant veggies, we also planted flowers. So now our tables are laden with vases of color here and there throughout our house.
I do so love the luxury of summer.
