It went ‘WOOOOO!!'”. He raises his arms and makes a ghost face. “Are you scared”, I asked. “No. I Batman. I hit the ghost and it go away”.

Belated Birthday (Part II)
03.28.11 | Permalink | | Comments Off on Belated Birthday (Part II)On March 19th 2008, three years ago, we woke up early and drove to the hospital for our 6:30 AM check in. Gigi was about to become a big sister and our family circle was about to become complete. After all of the vitals were checked and I was well medicated, Dr. Banfield made the incision and withdrew our little red and robust son and brother. It is amazing how much one little 8 pound person can drastically change the lives of three other people. On Gigi’s birthday we celebrate becoming a family, along with her becoming a new age. On Jude’s birthday we celebrate not just the change in his age, but the anniversary of when Gigi became a sister and when our family was complete. Saturday, March 19th 2011 was a celebration for just us. Our family woke up to presents for the boy, a trip to get fancy cupcakes and a lot of down time, playing with toys and enjoying one another’s company. It was the perfect way to celebrate our Jude, our family and the best big sister!
First? Robin takes the scene.
Then he opens a few presents. It was a pretty good haul (we realized that Jude has baby toys, Gigi’s girly toys, and not a lot outside of Star Wars so we went a little large, we admit. But it was fun.)
Gigi playing with the marble drop set that I bought, really, for me. I have always wanted one. Fortunately, both of my kids seem to like it too.
The truly awesome pirate ships. Truly. Awesome. He LOVES them and plays with them daily at this point.
It is fun to take pictures of pretty cupcakes. We let each of the kids choose a cupcake topper to put on their favorite cupcake. It doesn’t take to many brains to figure out whose is whose! Gigi chose red velvet cake while Jude went with the classic yellow cake and chocolate frosting. Neither were disappointed!
And the last gift? A giant castle for the pirates to storm! I think he is all set now. It was a nice, relaxing birthday – the perfect third birthday to celebrate our boy.

Belated Birthday (part I)
03.27.11 | Permalink | | Comments Off on Belated Birthday (part I)Jude turned three last Saturday. THREE. That means three years have flown by already and we only have two more until this boy will be starting kindergarten! Jude’s life thus far has been very busy. His first birthday was during the planning phase of our house building and during my completion of the National Boards, so we were too overwhelmed for a big party. Last year we were exhausted, broke and nearing the end of the house building, so we couldn’t hardly THINK of having a party much less throw one, so this year we went all out and had three years worth of birthdays in two weekends! We started with the Monster Mash birthday event (that also kind of doubled as a housewarming for us) and invited as many people as he wanted. It was a good time.
Monster Surprise cakes: The surprise? Each one had a mini candy bar inside. We decided that Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups =yum, while Butterfinger=what is that strange chewy gob in my cupcake???
And the rest of the monster cakes. Jimmies sprinkles were my close and personal friend for these cakes!
I like this picture of Jude because he is so calm in it. He was surprisingly low key during the whole party, almost as though he could not believe this was really happening!
One of the favorite gifts – something he has been oggling and touching in Target every chance he gets, and now? It is ALL HIS! Mwa haha!Cake time! This cake got well coated in slobber. But, we still ate it.
Candle blowing. Or candle raspberrying. It took a loooong time and a lot of spit to put out those candles!
This pinata was present at our ‘welcome Jude’ party that we had a week after he was born. He asked if we could break it and we were only too happy to comply!Post pinata candy craze.
The end of his party: a very happy boy and his new birthday toys.

Rock God Needs Love Gun
03.24.11 | Permalink | | Comments Off on Rock God Needs Love GunSo something snapped in me the other day and I had this urge to own a non-traditional rock god guitar. I don’t wanna rock… I just want the Edge’s Explorer, Brian Jones’ Vox, or even Randy Rhodes’ Flying V but my amps are mothballed and I am in more of an acoustic place in my life, what to do… what to do. Oh, I know! How about this Flying V acoustic guitar from Dean!! I put the call in to a guy on craigslist and I am waiting to see if I have found my new Love Gun. Maybe this weekend I shall need some wristbands and longer hair. I will feel like Matt Lukin. Touch me, I may truly be sick.

Binary
03.16.11 | Permalink | | Comments Off on BinaryI got a really cool, really geeky watch.
This watch displays time using the binary sequence (1,2,4,8,16,32) to display the hour, minutes, day and month (no year; ouch, I would need a bigger wrist). the H on the watch face denotes the hours sequence, and the M denotes the minutes string. You add up the lights on each string to get the time. I am already getting faster at reading the string.
To illustrate this:
in the first two pictures the 1 is lit in the vertical column (hours), and the 16,2, & 1 are lit in the horizontal column (minutes). This translates to 1:19. The third picture was taken one minute earlier and reads 1:18 because the lit numbers are 1 in the hours and 16,2 in the minutes. Easy Peasy!
Why do I need one more thing to decode in my day? I don’t know. But I like it and I feel so giddy about it that I am photographing my own wrist and gushing about it here. Go figure. The strap was even vegetarian. Extra bonus!
Oh, and be sure to ask me for the time when next we meet. I need the practice.
