Jude came to Tami and I the other night with this guitar in hand. He swung it up into position, spread his legs into an action pose and shouted, “hit it boys!”. He then began to strum madly and dance joyfully. We laughed and clapped and periodically he would stop, reload and start again with a resonant “hit it boys!”.

    Life has felt chaotic.

Really tumultuous.  Since building the house and moving in the expectation from all of us has been that life would be transformed into a milk & honey manna-land.  But it has not felt that way and I have not been able to wrap my mind around this.  I believe it is just how tired my body is… it drags my spirit down with the weight of it all.  That said, there are more and more bright spots as the days pass by.  Today is one of the best and brightest I have had in the new house.

Jude and I got to play like Gigi and I always did.  We watched Super Friends.  We wore super hero clothes.  We finger painted for hours.  We laughed and had a nice bath.  A nice lunch, too.  He went sweetly into nap time – a sign of how wonderful our day has been.  As I type this I feel so awash with feeling.  I want a new era to come.  Maybe today is the point where I can look back to and say it started with that one really good day.  I love our life.  I am enthused for it to pick up where we left off and run again.

Thank you Jude for a lovely, painterly day.  I love you boy.

It is safe to say, that for the most part, Jude is a potty trained man now!  Aside from an accident here or there and nighttime diapers, our boy has managed to do it.  Three cheers for the Judelbop!

Back when we lived in Bellingham in our old craftsman home, Bradley made built-in bookshelves on all of the walls. It was beautiful and really gave us the opportunity to have free access to all of our books. When we lived in our temporary house, before moving into this one, we did not do a whole lot to make the place feel like home. During the three years we lived there, I kind of forgot how lovely it can be to have a sanctuary bedroom – that is, a place you can’t wait to go to at night. A place that is calm, organized and lovely. So, this is what our bedroom looked like ‘before’:

In this picture you can see the classy-as-a-nightstand chair holding junk and the wobbly side table holding a huge tv with wires trailing down behind it. The funny thing? I didn’t even realize how terrifically ugly this was until I took the picture! Junk pile in corner? Ugh! So, my dear Bradley went to Ikea and bought me this wonderful, sliding door bookshelf/tv center for our room. It seemed too lavish and fancy, but now? I am not complaining!

The idea for me is to leave our bedroom nice. Nothing on the bed, nothing on top of the shelves (that is not a decoration), dirty clothes happen in the closet and bathroom, and hopefully our room will stay clutter free and sanctuary-ish. For Christmas, Bradley went out and bought me a new bed and mattress set.  He went with king size (!) and a foam mattress.  I love it!  Here is the bed side of the room:

I think the best part of this picture is Bradley’s side of the bed.  Because the bed is so close to the wall, he had to come up with some creative night stand solutions.  He found these really cool bookshelves that appear to be free floating books on the walls:

I also really like our new lamp/alarm clocks. They are intended to ease a sleeper into a natural wake-up cycle as the light turns on 30 minutes before the actual alarm goes off, then slowly brightens until it is at full strength, mimicking the sunrise.  I find that by the time the light is full, I am naturally awake, which is really nice when we live in an area where it is so dim and dark for much of the year.  The other thing that I like is that it has an alarm of birds chirping as an option, so light and birds wake me up in the morning instead of a darkened fumble to turn off the buzzing and beeping alarm.  I really like it!

Now, I feel selfish and greedy as I can’t wait for the kids to go to bed every night so I can head up to bed to revel in my new bedroom!
